My Story

Having grown up in Zimbabwe, I  dreamed of following in the footsteps of my countrymen like Nick Price and Mark McNulty. I represented Zimbabwe as a junior in the 1987 Orange Bowl in Miami. This gave me my first taste of international competition and despite a brief internship with Bain & Company in London, I pursued my goal of becoming a tournament professional.  I got off to a promising start by winning the South African Tour School in 1992 and enjoying some success on the West Region in the United Kingdom. Victories on the South African Tour in 1997 and 2000 in the Zambian Open gave me a taste of playing and succeeding at a high level. These victories opened doors allowing me to play on the Challenge Tour as well as selected events on the European Tour.

My fascination with the intricacies of the swing ultimately lead me to pursue a greater interest in coaching. David Leadbetter, (who also grew up in Zimbabwe) was doing amazing things helping so many players reach their goals. Most notably Nick Price and Nick Faldo both became multiple major champions under David’s tutelage. David’s teaching had an enormous influence on both my game and my teaching. I was fortunate to spend time with Gary Gilchrist at the Leadbetter Junior Academy in Sarasota, Florida working on my game and learning all about the swing. Gary inspired me to push past just being a technical teacher and to become a coach. I loved the idea of using drills and teaching aids to communicate technical movements in a simple fashion.

I am very much a golfing traditionalist. When the opportunity arose to join the Royal Auckland and Grange Golf Club as they redesigned their course with Nicklaus Design, I couldn’t resist. With the stated aim of becoming ‘comparable to the very best Private Clubs in Australasia’ I enjoyed 6 years at the club. Serving first as the Golf Manager and then being appointed to the position of Director of Golf. During my tenure, I completed an MBA graduating with distinction from Massey University.
